A HORSE tourney

What's the most you ever won?
You dont need to know. Learn bad habits.
Why dont I bring the chessboard up some afternoon?
I aint got the patience to play.
You got the patience to play poker.
That's different.
What's different about it?
Money is what's different about it.
-All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy

As part of the Memorial Day weekend celebrations, Sham invited the crew over for a HORSE tourney.

It was my first live game of the year. Five-handed, compared to the eight-handed HORSE tourney Sham hosted on Feb. 9, 2008.

It was super-fun. I hadn't played non-NLHE games in a long time. But I didn't feel like I was rusty. I took my time in the early rounds and used what I feel is a theoretical advantage in estimating the likelihood of remaining cards in the stud/razz games.

I was the shortstack for a while, especially after my set of Ts lost to Empire's flush. But I didn't Gigli the bout. I kept on fighting and ended up third, on the bubble (Braves-park 4-2).

What is exciting about this is maybe this will create a resurgence of the home game among the crew. The last time I played in a home game was at Poker Cats Arena on Sept. 8, 2008.

I've been pretty much dedicated to online poker since then but I have to admit the tourney was a great time with my friends.

Like Fan Appreciation Day (Braves 10, Blue Jays 2)

There was a lot to like at this game today for Braves fans, starting with Kelly Johnson's home run on the first pitch of the game, followed by another one by Brian McCann.

Jair Jurrjens pitched really well but it was a shame the Blue Jays tied it up before he came out.

We saw an extremely explosive 7th inning with Chipper Jones getting a couple of RBI on a single as a pinch hitter and then McCann finishing off the inning with a 3-run shot.

It's nice to see the Braves go 3 games above .500 and sweep a team that was at the top of the AL East.

Deal of deals (ATL-LAS $104 r/t)

Just purchased on US Airways a round-trip ticket from Atlanta-Las Vegas for $104 round trip. Holla.

The hare and the tortoise (as told through the Magic-Cavaliers Game 1)

This is what I don't like about LeBron James. He's all flashy and celebrating dunks and shots in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

And then is worn out in the fourth quarter and loses. And suffers cramps at the end of the game, which makes him even lesser than most mortals (when's the last time you had cramps in your legs?).

It's totally the story of the hare and the tortoise. The hare's all celebrating but he hasn't reached the finish line.

Wake up from your nap, LeBron! You want a championship, you focus and you shut the hell up until it's in your hands.

Or the tortoise will steal away your thunder. Right now you are the king of sand with no homecourt advantage.

Someone please tell them to turn their swag on (Rockies 5, Braves 1)

I got a question why they hatin' on me/
I got a question why they hatin' on me/
I ain't did nothin to 'em but count this money...
-Soulja Boy

The last game I was wondering what was the at-bat song for Braves center fielder Jordan Schafer. Tonight I found it, with the help of Google. It has an appropriate lyric that would befit an at-bat song:

Turn my swag on/
It's my time to turn it up, yeah, yeah/
I put my team on, did my theme song/
Now it's time to turn it up

But the Braves offense has been anemic (including Schafer going 0-for-3 in Monday's loss to the Rockies), making me wonder if the team is making use of the first quote instead.

Equally anemic was the 15,000+ attending crowd. I am wondering if catcher Brian McCann is still having trouble playing defense without his glasses, as he bobbled a catch at home from first that ended up with the Rockies' first run scored.

Also unfortunate was a sliding catch that Garret Anderson wasn't able to keep.

Otherwise, it was a fun evening, seeing a close pitching battle between Derek Lowe (who had a nice single) and Jason Marquis.

HOTD

UTG was very aggro fishy while the 3-bettor was pretty solid. But I couldn't just fold the 'hooks...
